A Defence Science & Technology Organisation (DSTO) occurs as branch of the Australian Department of Defence which researches and develops technologies for use in the Australian Defence Industry. DSTO was created around 1974 by amalgamating a Australian Defence Scientific Service using the Science Branch of the Department of Defence. Across a next Xx years various more Australian Defence laboratories were integrated using DSTO, including what remained of the Weapons Search Establishment, responsible the Woomera test range.
